GWA Welcomes The Honorable Erika Moritsugu to the Board!
Global Women Asia (GWA) is delighted to announce Erika L. Moritsugu as the newest member of its Board of Directors.
A nationally recognized leader for uplifting and empowering traditionally marginalized communities, Erika was most recently the Deputy Assistant to President Biden and the Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Senior Liaison at the White House, where she managed domestic and foreign policy and engagements out of the White House Chief of Staff’s office.
Erika has supported GWA since our founding days. During the APEC 2023 Women in Sustainability Fellowship in San Francisco, she represented then-Vice President Kamala Harris at the Women Charting a Sustainable Future reception, where she joined other U.S. officials in recognizing the importance of women’s leadership from the Asian Pacific region. Erika continued her support for GWA’s 2024 Women in STEM Fellowship.
“Erika's lifelong dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices perfectly complements GWA's mission to empower women and allies through global cross-cultural dialogue,” welcomed Wenchi Yu, Founder and Chairwoman of the Board.
“It is my honor to join the expert and mission-driven professionals on GWA’s board – every single one of whom has been with the organization from its inception under the leadership of the inimitable Wenchi Yu and Fritz Demopoulos. Over the past few years, I’ve seen firsthand the impact that GWA’s global women leaders can make when they are resourced and given voice and visibility. I am excited to play a role in helping to support GWA’s fellows and programming to uplift the work and educate ourselves about what is possible.”
Born in California, Erika recently relocated back to Hawai’i, where she was raised, after decades of honorable public service in Washington, D.C. GWA is pleased to have Erika on our team and looks forward to her leadership in strengthening GWA’s efforts to build leadership with Asian perspectives.
